The Trappers Association of Nova Scotia, with financial assistance from the Nova Scotia Habitat and Conservation Fund, has created a mentorship program.
This program allows trappers to be paired with another trapper in order to learn new trapping skills. The mentoring trapper will teach, with hands-on experience, the aspects of trapping particular species of interest to the mentored trapper. Safety and land owner relations will also be emphasized along with non-target species. The important aspect of fur-bearer population management will also be discussed.
The mentored trapper will gain valuable “hands-on” experience and will provide an opportunity for important skill sets to be taught.
